I've heard mixed rumors on this... anyone know the real info on whether the 360 will be backwards compatible or not?
Fully backwards compatable, including XBL support.
Hmm, that's what I heard around the net, but EGM said it wouldn't be... wonder who's right.

uh no. It will be backwards compatable but only for the bestselling games.

As long as I have Halo, Halo 2, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, and Fusion Frenzy i will be fine.
dude yes yes it will thank god

How do they make a new console that is only backwards compatible for the best selling games? Wouldn't you consider Platinum Hits bestsellers plus a few of the newer games like Halo 2, SC3, etc.? They have some special code in there to distinguish a bestseller from one that isn't?

If Game is 'Halo 2'
Then
Allow it to play
Else
Don't allow it to play
Endif

I read that the backward compatibility was an emulator mode.

exactly

OK, so what exactly does "Emulator mode" mean?

Quote:
To imitate the function of (another system), as by modifications to hardware or software that allow the imitating system to accept the same data, execute the same programs, and achieve the same results as the imitated system.

Because the 360 is being built differently they had to create an emulator (which is very hard) but it looks like they're only spending enough time so the big sellers will make it in. Platium hits will probably be part of that collection.

I've been wondering about this, and I figure since we're on the topic of bestselling games, how come the first halo has not made it to the platinum hits list?

A.) They would have to re-create the box and sell only those.

B.) All stores would sell it for a certain price which isn't usually the best money maker!

C.) Halo 2 is out, why promote the other one?

they have re-compile the executables so that they would run on the new arch. (PPC) ... so u have to buy the game again... (M$ is gay)
why dont thay just let you download them to the HDD and start them from there with all the refrences (maps, etc.) on the original DVD ???? Confused
so much for "compatibility"
