What pisses me off the most is when people say that Nintendo is only for kids under 13 and nobody under the age of that should have one.
Because Nintendo puts out some awesome games and just because they're not "OMG MATURE GAME AWESOME VIOLENCE" doesn't change that. I'll take a Zelda or Mario game over yet another "kill everyone in sight" game.
The problem with "graphics over gameplay" is that many companies don't even bother with gameplay anymore. They know "pretty game equals sales" and just work on the graphics. Or they know "lots of features = sales" and just work on that. I rented MLB 2006 the other day to try it out...lots of interesting features, but the graphics are kind of ugly and the gameplay is pretty bad. It sure is nice to have features, but the game sucks. I've played other games that look nice and pretty, but they suck, big time, because it's unplayable.
I've had a lot of fun with Halo 2 the past year or so, but I had more fun playing Smash Brothers or Double Dash then I ever have any of the shooting games. Because those games are for ANYONE. They're not for children, but there's no reason children can't play them either. That's a great game to me. I enjoy "mature" games, but the idea that a game must have extreme realistic violence and/or sex or it's a kiddy game is insane.
Nintendo does not make solely kiddy games (of course they have a couple, I'm sure Playstation has a couple too). The difference is Nintendo primarily makes games ANYONE can enjoy. Sure they make a couple kids games. They also make a few mature games. But primarily they make games that do not push people away.
You can hate Nintendo if you want, but they're the only ones who are at all interested in making games for everyone, instead of just for adults that love violence.
One of the reasons Nintendo was so seccessful was because The key is that You have to have you're games appeal to everybody. And thats what they did.
The only reason people think Nintendo is a "kids system" is because of people who don't even play the thing saying stuff like this. No offense, but as a big fan of the company's games and systems, it really bothers the hell out of me when people say stuff like that. I'm not a Nintendo fanboy but I'm beyond sick of people saying crap like that
